Allocation and stepping aside

You decide how much of your GPU Meris may use and when. Both settings live in the app and reach your worker within a second, no restart needed.

Allocation

Allocation is the share of each GPU's VRAM the network may use, from 10% to 100% in steps of 5. Lent VRAM is total VRAM times allocation: a 12 GB card at 50% lends 6 GB; at 100% it lends the full 12 GB.

It decides two things:

  • What you earn. Pay is the hourly rate for your card times the share you lend.
  • Which lab jobs fit. Labs ask for a minimum amount of memory per card. See Hardware.

The account allocation applies to every GPU you own. To give one machine its own setting, open Worker in the app, find the GPU, and turn off Use account allocation.

Lend less, keep more

Allocation is a ceiling for the network, not a reservation. The rest of the card stays yours.

Stepping aside

With Step aside when I use my GPU on (the default), the worker watches your GPU's utilisation every five seconds:

  • When the GPU is above 40% busy with no Meris work on it, something else is using it. The worker reports itself busy, the network stops using the card, and it stops earning.
  • When utilisation falls back under 15%, it is available and earning again.

The two thresholds are different on purpose, so a game hovering around one value does not make the worker flip back and forth.

NVIDIA only for now

Utilisation comes from nvidia-smi. On Apple Silicon and AMD the worker cannot read it yet, so it never steps aside on its own. Pause the GPU from the app, or stop the worker, when you need the whole card.

Pausing

Every GPU has a Serve jobs switch in the app. Turning it off stops the network from using the card immediately while keeping the worker connected, so turning it back on is instant. A paused GPU does not earn. Your earnings and settings stay as they are.

Removing a GPU

Remove on the Worker page disconnects the machine and invalidates its device token. Earnings already made stay in your balance. To use the machine again, pair it with a new code.
